Living in a townhouse can have many perks to it!

A large complaint about townhouses is that they’re very restrictive. However this complaint is completely false! (in most cases). People tend to imagine that all townhouses must be kept to the same standards, colors, and even layouts. This is completely wrong once bought it’s yours!

The biggest benefit to a townhouse over a condo is that you actually own the land! When you buy a condo you’re basically just buying a small piece of a huge building, where as with townhouses you actually own both property and the land. I don’t know about what you think, but that’s kinda cool.

People tend to think of townhouses as glorified apartments

Unfortunately for some reason the popular opinion on townhouses, is that they’re really not like houses. To me that sounds stupid, townhouses never claimed to be houses! The whole concept of a townhouse is that it’s cheaper and some of the duties are maintained by the home-owners association. If the idea of owning an entire house seems a bit to large for you, a townhouse is perfect most compounds include many community amenities such as pools and rec-rooms. These perks combined with the cheaper price make town-houses actually a nice alternative to a full house.

Homeowners associations do tons for you!

Even though they aren’t full houses think about what you save in head-aches not owning a full house. No snow shoveling, most associations do your grass for you to! Some of the Home-owners associations even facilitate repairs as part their fees. Imagine that, it’s almost like you get almost all the benefits of a private home, plus the added extras of the homeowners association. Not to mention a bustling community of folks just like you all within close reach! Town-homes are great places to raise kids as they are usually safe-areas so kids can be outside all day playing!

In the end it’s up to you though!

Whether or not the concept of a townhouse sounds like something that you’d like, I hope this guide was helpful in your decision making process. Buying a home can be a major ordeal and should not be taken lightly, even with townhomes being cheaper then houses. If you can’t afford it, don’t buy it! Banks are ruthless with foreclosures on homeowners who neglect payments so always be sure to pick a place within your budget. You wouldn’t want to lose that nice town home you bought now would you?
